Pottstown wildlife control tip of the month:

About Flying Squirrel

Flying squirrels are very interesting Pottstown animal control creatures. They do not actually fly like birds, they glide through the air between the trees. Some can even glide up to 90 meters. A styli form cartilage is connected to their wrists forming a wing they use for gliding. They use the wrist to navigate and their tail to stabilize the flight. In all other ways, they are similar to an ordinary squirrel. There are about 50 Pottstown pest control species of flying squirrels around the world. They are very small, from 8 to 12 inches, and they weigh from 4 to 6.5 ounces. Their natural habitat is deciduous and coniferous forests. They can be found in North and South America. Flying squirrels are omnivores, which mean they eat everything, from fruit, seeds, insects, flowers, fungi, bird’s eggs, tree sap, spiders etc. They have a very developed sense of smell so they can easily find food. Since they glide to travel greater distances, the energy they get from food is more used for searching for food than for moving around. In the Pottstown wildlife removal wild, they usually live to about six years, while in captivity they can live up to 15 years.

Flying squirrels have a lot of natural predators, such as raccoons, snakes, coyotes, feral cats, bobcats, owls, martens, hawks etc. That is why their mortality rate is very high, and diseases also contribute to that. They are mostly nocturnal Pottstown animal trapping creatures, because it is much easier for them to escape predators during night. They also have a good sense of sight, adapted to night conditions. The ability to glide is a very useful one when it comes to escaping predators. For a glide to be successful, a squirrel must be very fast to leap and start gliding. It is also very important how it lands because if they do so at a very high angle, they will hurt themselves.

Flying squirrels mate from February to March. They deliver young in their nests and only mothers stay with the young. The young are born completely helpless, they do not have any senses developed, but nevertheless, they develop fast, and by the fifth week, they are developed. First two and a half months of their lives they practice gliding, and once they master it, they leave the nest for good. They are highly social Pottstown exterminator beings and they live in communities, so you can find a lot of them in a single hole.
